If you're looking for a new sporting event to attend, look no farther. The Regatta Rowing Championship is where you need to be. We just attended this event, and honestly I have to say, it was absolutely incredible. With culture, sport, and a social environment par to none, the Regatta in Henley on Thames in England was absolutely incredible.
Our group had tickets to a private area where we were provided full access to everything on the lawn, including food, drinks, lawn chairs, and a tour of the Thames river during the event. Here at the rowing championships, there were a large number of teams from all over the world, the winning team from a USA college team. However, it wasn't the competition that impressed me the most.
The trip I am on, is not to simply show myself other sports, but more importantly, to introduce me to new cultures internationally when it comes to sport and game. This event, showed myself a stark contrast in sport culture. All of Henley on Thames, where the event was held, was dressed with men in suits, women in dresses and heels. Myself, wearing a polo, was largely underdressed. After attending events in America where the common dress is the jersey of your favorite team, or jeans and a shirt; this event had it all. Going down the river on our boat we were able to see the whole river where the event was taking place. Some of the houses on the side of the river were impeccable, with moats and drawbridges. This was a town from a fairytale....that happened to have one of the largest and most competitive rowing competitions in the world happening in it.
Overall, the day was amazing. We ended up staying for over 6 hours at this event. Filled with afternoon tea, (a nap on the side of the Thames river), and an experience I'll never forget, don't skip over my pictures below. Maybe someday you can experience some of the incredible moments from this event!
